The Virginia Tech Student Chapter of SIAM is one of several student chapters of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) across the nation. SIAM is an organization that ensures the strongest interactions between mathematics and other scientific and technological communities.

We are interested in forming an enthusiastic group of students interested in applied mathematics and computational sciences. We believe that students can share research ideas, explore career opportunities, and make good contacts by becoming a member of our organization.

Our last speaker was Dr. John Burns, whose talk "Functional Analysis in Optimal Control: From the Calculus of Variations to Infinite Dimensional Control Theory" drew a diverse crowd. Upcoming talks will be advertised here as they are scheduled.

The SIAM Student Chapter is also proud to co-sponsor the Atlantic Coast Conference On Mathematics In the Life and Biological Sciences, which will be held May 3–5 at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute at Virginia Tech.
